UK rap heavyweight Avelino is back with his latest single, “Bad Britain,” a powerful collaboration featuring Kojey Radical and WSTRN’s Haile. Known for his masterful lyricism, Avelino once again demonstrates his sharp wordplay over a vibrant beat produced by FaNaTiX, continuing to cement his place among the UK's elite rappers.
Following the success of his AIM Award-winning debut album God Save The Streets, Avelino’s new track dives into the challenges and triumphs that shaped his upbringing, with a blend of introspective verses and triumphant commentary. “Bad Britain” is a testament to the resilience and strength forged in difficult circumstances, particularly in the context of growing up on council estates. The track merges reflections on personal success with an exploration of the broader societal issues in Britain.
Haile lends his signature smooth vocals to the chorus, delivering a hook that echoes the track's themes of perseverance and divine protection amid adversity. Kojey Radical joins on the latter half of the track, bringing his unique blend of sharp flows and stirring delivery, further amplifying the song’s energy and message. Speaking about the collaboration, Avelino said:
“It was great to link up with Haile again after all these years, and to have Kojey join us on the track, especially because the song’s called ‘Bad Britain’. We’re three lions, three dreadlocked artists coming together – it feels fitting. ‘Bad Britain’ is about the habit of turning good into bad, because in slang, bad means good. Regardless of what adversities or hurdles may come our way, we know God’s got us, and we’ll prevail. That’s the mindset that gets us out of the trenches.”
Avelino's rise to prominence began with his groundbreaking 2015 mixtape Young Fire, Old Flame alongside Wretch 32, which earned him widespread acclaim. Since then, collaborations with Skepta, Dave, and Stormzy - who namechecked him during his historic Glastonbury set - have solidified his reputation as one of the UK's most revered lyricists. His debut album God Save The Streets topped the Independent Album Charts and to this day is still a standout album from the UK scene.
With “Bad Britain,” Avelino steps confidently into the next chapter of his career, showing no signs of slowing down. This powerful anthem, fueled by hard-hitting lyricism and unforgettable melodies, is a bold reminder of his place at the forefront of UK rap.
