Mulaa Joans Opens Her Next Chapter With Phone Sex

The London-based singer-songwriter Mulaa Joans steps into vulnerability head-on, delivering a stripped-back ballad that circles desire, insecurity and the quiet damage that can build inside a relationship. 'Phone Sex' opens the year for Mulaa Joans with her most exposed release yet.

The song moves patiently, letting emotion lead. Phone Sex focuses on longing and imbalance, capturing the push-and-pull between closeness and distance. Mulaa’s vocal stays controlled throughout, never overreaching, allowing the weight of the lyrics to land without distraction.

Alongside the release, Mulaa has shared a live performance filmed at RAK Studios. Backed by a full string section arranged by Simon Hale, the performance strips the song back even further. The setting and arrangement bring a sense of intimacy that mirrors the track’s emotional core, placing her voice front and centre.

Phone Sex is the first single from Mulaa’s upcoming third EP, due later this year. It follows last year’s 'Nighttime Religion,' a five-track project that highlighted her ability to balance tenderness with cinematic scope. Tracks from that EP leaned into late-night moods and personal reflection, setting the groundwork for where she’s heading next.

At just 19, Mulaa Joans is carving out a sound rooted in emotional clarity rather than spectacle. Her songwriting pulls from personal experience, shaped by a voice that feels both classic and current. With Phone Sex, she doesn’t try to make a statement. She lets the feeling speak, opening the door to a year that looks set to be her most revealing yet.
