YAZ Turns Frustration Into Pop Statement On ‘Big Deal’

YAZ returns with 'Big Deal,' a confident new pop single that turns a frustrating studio experience into a sharp statement about ego, self-worth and knowing when to walk away.

Driven by bright guitar riffs and sleek pop production, the track carries a warm, slightly retro glow while keeping its sound firmly rooted in modern pop. The melody moves easily, but the lyrics cut straight through the polish. Lines like “Oh you’re a big deal aren’t you…” call out arrogance with clarity rather than restraint. For YAZ, the song began with a moment that quickly shifted from frustration to perspective.

“Big Deal came the day after a writing session that didn’t go as planned,” she explains. “Instead of collaborating, I was talked down to and told how little I knew about the industry and myself. As a young woman in music, that’s something I’ve experienced more than once.”

Rather than letting the moment pass, she turned it into the track.

“Big Deal became a way to say all the things I didn’t think of in the moment. It helped me realise that someone else’s ego is a reflection of them and not you.”

The single follows January’s Difficult, marking her second release of the year and continuing the momentum that began with her breakout single Mr Valentine. First teased on TikTok, the track quickly spread online and has since passed more than 7.5 million streams on Spotify.

Before that breakout moment, YAZ had already spent years building an audience online. She began posting videos to YouTube at 13, documenting everything from school life to beauty tutorials for a channel that eventually grew to nearly 700,000 subscribers. Through that process, she realised music was where her focus belonged.

With Big Deal, YAZ delivers one of her clearest statements yet. It’s a song about recognising someone else’s ego for what it is, and choosing yourself instead.
