This Week In Music: Jim Legxacy, Nectar Woode, Sainté, Freddie Gibbs...

Black British Music takes over the airwaves this week (!). A man called Jim Legxacy just dropped one of the projects of the year. Nectar Woode says "it's like I never left" with her EP. Sainté shows his music is 4L on his EP. Oh, and Skepta just bodied Joyner Lucas?! Black British Music is truly alive and winning.

Thanks to all for their creations. We speak more about each on our website, and lovingly collate them in a playlist on Spotify for ease of your listening experience.

Welcome to This Week In Music.

Jim Legxacy - Black British Music (2025)

ree

Jim Legxacy’s new mixtape black british music (2025) is part diary entry, part mosh pit, part Tumblr-core fever dream. One track namechecks Wayne Rooney, another features Dave, and at some point he samples a harpsichord, because of course he does. It’s chaotic, heartfelt, and somehow makes grief, snus, and Dungeons & Dragons all live in the same universe.

Nectar Woode - it's like I never left

ree

Like a breath of fresh air, Nectar Woode arrives with her new EP, it's like I never left. Avid readers of TWIM will have noticed our support for who we believe to be one of the most exciting new acts around. Keep your eyes peeled for more from Oculate and Nectar (spoiler alert!). With her new project, she brings her Ghanaian heritage to the forefront, with many tracks recorded on her first trip to the country earlier in the year. It's full of bright, exciting sounds and her voice glides over the record impeccably. Take a listen!

Sainté - 4L

ree

There’s nothing quite as special as your favourite artists deciding to pay homage to the sounds that made them. Try and think of a greater heartbreak than mourning their golden years; reminiscing on a debut or sophomore album that you really didn’t think could be topped (and often can’t). But today UK rap starboy Sainté eases all our worries, as he releases his latest EP ‘4L’, a smooth, self-assured ode to the Lo Fi sounds which catapulted him into the public sphere. Think ‘Champagne Shots’ and ‘Stylin’’ but now imagine an alternate 2025 reality where Sainté is rapping alongside Wiz Khalifa. Yup, this is a bright new chapter - still local is going global.

Amie Blu - shadow

ree

Amie Blu’s shadow sounds like a love song until you realise it’s actually about spiralling self-worth and chasing validation from people who barely text back. It’s raw, scruffy, and somehow soothing, like overthinking in a warm bath. Fresh off tour with Faye Webster and headed for the festival circuit, Amie’s making sad girl music you can sulk and strut to.

Freddie Gibbs, The Alchemist - 1995

ree

Freddie Gibbs is soon to return with the 2nd edition of his iconic Alfredo album?!? God this week is strong right? And we have Mr Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist in part to thank for this. Whetting our apetite with what will undoubtedly be as filling and satiating as the Italian delicacy it’s named after, Gibbs returns today with Alfredo 2’s opening track, ‘1995’.

Skepta - Round 2

ree

BIG SMOKE. That's all.

Keep an eye out for our next full piece on the saga, coming soon.

Check out our last one here.

hard life - onion

ree

The boys are back. After a tumultuous few years to say the least, hard life drop onion. The sentence 'hard life drop onion' sounds absolutely ludicrous. Which I quite enjoy. Their new album sees their usual indie sensibility, with lyrics split between lighthearted frivolity and penetrating vulnerability. A hard thing to capture, they manage it pretty effortlessly across an interesting listen of an album.

Blood Orange - Mind Loaded (feat. Caroline Polachek, Lorde, Mustafa)

ree

Well, what a lineup we’ve got here!  Blood Orange’s latest offering ‘Mind Loaded’, is one to get stuck into today. And while its features (including Caroline Polachek, Lorde, and Mustafa) feel like they’ve been cherry-picked straight from this writer’s playlist (or so she tells herself), it’s Dev Hynes’ - aka Blood Orange - production and songwriting talents that shine in full beam on this latest release. Mind Loaded’ marks the second official single teasing a full project on the way from Blood Orange, and we are GASSEDDD!
