West London-hailing artist CARI is bringing power and passion through her tender R&B soundscapes. In her new indie-rock infused R&B single, ‘Over & Over’, she digs deep into pain and the search for relief.
After her first single ‘Colder in June’, a powerful R&B debut that amassed stellar support from the genre’s devoted enthusiasts and even a co-sign from rap legend Kendrick Lamar; West London-based singer and multi-instrumentalist CARI returns this year with a delicate forerunner titled ‘Over & Over’. With this latest release, she’s set to impress the UK R&B scene and beyond once again.
Though the UK has been crafting its own unique imprint on R&B, certain UK & US counterparts possess distinctive similarities. CARI’s hearty vocals are completely addicting, and reminiscent of some of R&B’s contemporary legends, such as SZA and Summer Walker. A sure antecedent for her success across the pond.
Showcasing her stirring vocals in this new release, ‘Over & Over’ is a luscious slow burn, opening with a disjointed chord progression and ethereal guitar tones. The track swells, and when each component comes together in harmony, CARI falls into a hopeful yet melancholic indie-rock infused hook. Lyrically she digs deep, handling her own struggles with self esteem and her search for comfort.
“I’d been struggling with self-image, self-esteem, purpose and staying grounded. I was doing the things that usually felt cathartic and it wasn’t providing relief at all.” she tells Clash.
Over & Over’ offers an exciting glimpse into what’s to come for this talented songstress, and seemingly it won't be long before CARI becomes a household name in UK R&B scene.
