Starting life in Buckinghamshire, the now Shoreditch-based artist shines across many fields. His name, VIRTUO, is a play on the term ‘virtuoso’, signifying his skill as a rapper, singer, producer, designer, painter and animator. Over highly emotive production, VIRTUO delves deep on his personal life, providing insight into what it’s like to be an independent artist. The production is dominated by soulful vocals, allowing space for the rapper to flex his storytelling talent.
In his own words, “I've worked very hard behind the scenes to come into this new era of my music, and ‘Haze’ is about the struggles I've been going through along the way. I wanted to start with honesty, everyone seems to write about how hard they are working and how they are better than everyone else but no one talks of their difficulties and shortcomings.”
He continued, “For me it is important to acknowledge them in order to work past them and achieve everything I aspire to. I don't have a label or a big team behind me and I don’t have a simple life. There are so many things that try to intervene in my success from my health to financial situation to life changes but Haze is a promise to myself that I will persevere.”
With his multi-faceted approach VIRTUO is certainly one to watch going forward. With more releases planned throughout summer it will be exciting to see where his sound goes next, as this independent artist continues to carve his own path.
