For the past two nights, The Lower Third has been filled to capacity, with gig-goers in attendance for one of UK rap’s most exciting prospects. Laicositna, often referred to in reverse (Antisocial), is carving his space in the UK music scene with care and precision.
Laicositna is a young-artist shrouded in an air of mystery and intrigue. His music exists in the melodic UK Rap space, but possesses features to set it apart from his contemporaries. Most notably, it’s his musicality and song-writing abilities that stand-out. A frequent feature of his show was before the DJ played the track, Laico would deliver the first lyric from the upcoming song, and the crowd would immediately be sent into a frenzy. Having lyrics so widely known and appreciated in this way is something that is rarely seen.
The setlist consisted predominantly of songs from Laicositna’s debut project, ‘Deal With It’, along with a couple of older fan-favourites. Noteworthy tracks included ‘Take Me Serious’, and ‘Respectfully’, as well as an unreleased track played, due to drop in the coming weeks. Impressively, the majority of the room could already sing the unreleased song's chorus word-for-word. This led me to one of my main take-aways from the evening; the strength of Laicositna’s core fanbase.
In an age where artists are here today and gone tomorrow, this is one individual who seems able to continually captivate his audience. In the second of his two sold-out shows, the crowd was astutely aware of Laico’s discography. Whilst some aspects of his stagecraft could be improved as he gains experience, all the characteristics for success are there.
Also there, were several recognisable faces, most notably fellow UK rappers Antslive and Rushy. With 'Antisocial backwards' receiving praise from peers and fans alike, there seems to be no limits on the success this artist can find. With time and consistency, Laicositna is someone you can put money on going extremely far, with his recent shows at The Lower Third proving this.
