Window Kid And Shapes Rework Basement Jaxx’s 'Red Alert' Into 'Folklore'

Window Kid is back, and “Folklore” proves he hasn’t lost a step. The Nottingham lyricist drops a new single this November, teaming up with multi-platinum producer Shapes to rework Basement Jaxx’s Red Alert in a way that pays homage to 2000s British dance while leaning into gritty, conversational rap.

Window Kid

On Folklore, Shapes handles the production with his signature bass-heavy touch, creating a club-ready backdrop for Window Kid’s playful storytelling and sharp bars. He balances cheeky humour with grounded reflections, capturing both his underground roots and a growing songwriting ambition.

This single marks another step in Window Kid’s evolution. After his collab with Toddla T on Rambling Bars, he’s proving he’s not just viral freestyler energy, he’s growing into a full artist who can bring real emotion and structure into his music.

For Shapes, this isn’t just another feature, he’s got a history working with Aitch, Rudimental, Wretch 32 and more. Folklore feels like a natural continuation of his catalogue, but with a unique twist that leans into UK culture in a distinctly British way. Shapes explains how the collab came about:

"I had a gig DJing for Example at a festival on the Isle Of Man, and Basement Jaxx were also on the bill. Ended up chatting to them at the airport the next day and asked them for the parts to Red Alert so i could sample it. Felix said yes! Over 3 years passed since and I didn’t do anything with them because I didn’t find the right vibe, until I went to the studio with Window and played him the sample. And then we made the tune in about an hour!"

On top of the single, Window Kid is hitting the road. His UK tour runs through November and early December, visiting cities like Bristol, Cardiff, London, Brighton, Leicester, Sheffield, Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and finally Nottingham.

This run feels like a statement: Folklore isn’t just a drop, it’s Window Kid staking his claim as one of UK rap’s most original voices. Between the nostalgia for old-school club culture and his sharp streetwise wit, he’s bridging generations and doing it in his own style.
