Rising US singer, songwriter, and storyteller Tianna Esperanza returns with her dramatic new offering “Lone Child”, taken from her forthcoming debut album Terror out this February.
Originating from Massachusetts, Tianna’s outsider status – queer and of mixed heritage - play a big part in her life and music, with themes of protest and deeper, lived lyricism running throughout her work. In this way, “Lone Child” feels both classic and supremely of the moment – openly combatting sexual violence and colourism and emerging as an anthem of confidence, guidance and freedom, of finding your way through dark times.
Balancing an innate sultriness with punk spikiness, it’s clear that Tianna’s muses – the likes of Nina Simone and Public Enemy – have been closely studied. The grand-daughter of legendary punk drummer, Palmolive - pioneering founder of the all-female punk band the Slits and the Raincoats has laid a foundation and flair that will continue the growing attention around the fiery young talent.
With a support slot confirmed to Irish singer-songwriter Mick Flannery across his US national tour next month and her own debut body of work Terror out February 17th, Tianna’s unique storytelling an eclectic range continues to mark her as a significant new name in the landscape.
