Today’s track of the day is Moral Turpitude from Leeds-based band Sidewinder. This is the latest single from the West Yorkshire five piece, released in July this year.
Self-defining their genre as blackened crossover, Sidewinder’s sound is quite the hybrid - a blend of death metal over heavy thrash and hardcore. This hard-to-pinpoint sound can be heard and experienced within Moral Turpitude – which (if you were to describe in a nutshell) is three and a half minutes of straight up, solid thrash metal, which is about self-serving career politicians and their lack of empathy or any care towards anything other than their greed for their own profit.
First formed in 2016, an idea was born and Sidewinder began as a garage project band. Not until 2019 did the band’s lineup become complete with like-minded members who bought into the idea of infusing a death metal edge into thrash. Not long after, they played their first show in Huddersfield alongside Manchester band Ingested.
Since the formation, Sidewinder now have a short but sweet catalogue of music so far, with an album release in March this year and four single releases, the most recent of which being Moral Turpitude. All their releases so far have been self-produced, tracked, mixed and mastered by bassist Matt Finch in his home studio.
