Manchester's music scene has long been a hub for emerging talent, and the latest artist making waves is 19-year-old Daniella Lubasu, also known as DellaXOZ.
DellaXOZ burst onto the scene last year with her debut EP, 'THE DELLA VARIANT.' Tracks like 'AHH!' and 'i want, doesn't get' marked her as a key young creator, emerging from the next chapter of Manchester's rich musical tradition. Notably, she self-produced 'THE DELLA VARIANT' on GarageBand while completing her A-levels, even enlisting her siblings for backing vocals. Since then, DellaXOZ has been honing her live performance skills, opening for artists like Wallice and spill tab.
'BORING' represents an important shift in DellaXOZ's creative process being her first release released collaboratively in a studio, working with Mack Jamieson - known for collaborations with Clavish, Wallice, and Mahalia. Elevating DellaXOZ's signature glitchy alt-pop and indie-rock fusion, whilst introducing a midwestern emo-style guitar riff on top of a hyper-pop instrumental and jersey drums, resulting in what can only be described as a sense of chaos and unpredictability. DellaXOZ provides insight into the song, saying;
"BORING" is like an anthem that inspires you to celebrate your breakups rather than cry about them. I've written hundreds of unreleased songs about relationships ending and even blaming myself, sometimes for things I'm not even at fault for. I think a lot of people, specifically girls in my generation, relate to doing that whole negative self-talk thing and clinging onto dead situations that don't serve us, which inspired me to write this pro-breakup song. 'BORING' celebrates leaving relationships that have no emotional benefit and ending repetitive cycles of heartbreak as they're ultimately just boring."
DellaXOZ's boldness, conviction, and bright alt-pop experimentation are winning her new fans, and there's undoubtedly more to come from this rising star, just like many of Manchester's past legends.
