‘Talk Of The Town’ sees Irish Rapper Curtisy Closing out the Year Just as Strong as he Started it

Curtisy

Irish-born rapper Curtisy has had a remarkable year both internationally and at home: Co-signs from Maverick Sabre and NTS’ DJ Bempah, opening for New York native Wiki in his hometown Dublin, a BBC Radio 1Xtra debut slot, an energetic set at Electric Picnic, and a successful UK/EU tour. Earlier this year, Dazed described him as “One of the best rappers to ever come out of Ireland”; the buzz around him is substantial, and rightly so. Curtisy released his debut single ‘F.M.N’ in 2020 and maintained momentum with appealing singles and hearty mixtapes. Among his most notable releases is ‘Men On A Mission’ in 2022, where he exchanges sharp flows with fellow Irish rapper Ahmed, My Love, backed by production from Rory Sweeney, which was given the remix treatment by breakthrough MC Kojaque, further cementing Curtisy’s place as part of Ireland’s rising talent.

With his latest track ‘Talk Of The Town’, Curtisy is capping off a notably successful year in his signature style, releasing a confident and lively banger that sees him reconnecting with producer Owin, who has quietly become a secret weapon in the Irish music scene, alongside Lil Skag, whose witty lyricism and deadpan delivery contrast neatly with Curtisy’s bubbly and bright flows. The stretched piano chords, paired with minimal drum patterns and deep bass, enhance the verses from Skag and Curtisy that exude  confidence from every angle. References to“Tracy Beaker on crack,” Spiderman, and The  Sims blend into catchy choruses saturated with auto-tune, seamlessly leading into Lil Skag’s equally sharp verses, with a slight vocoder effect on his voice that fits perfectly into the dreamy, drill-inspired arrangements around it.

The video, directed by Cian Bolger, is as gleefully unfiltered as the song itself. Shots of the trio moving between London and Brighton locations, with brightly coloured lyrics and varied animations layered over the visuals, enhance the playfulness of the track. It also highlights where Curtisy’s career is now and where it's headed. With strong endorsements and excellent releases like the Hikii-produced BEAUTY IN THE BEAST mixtape, ‘Talk Of The Town’ demonstrates exactly what it promises, and more. As he states in his Instagram bio:“It’s over for rappers". I, for one, believe him.
