One of London’s artists of the moment, Olaolu Slawn, has just unveiled his official collaboration with Avant Arte. The Motherlan co-founder and self-proclaimed “scam artist” introduces a limited edition sculpture titled “Ugly Bastard.”
Over a year ago, Slawn teased this sculpture on X, hinting at a creation modelled after his own image. Drawing inspiration from characters he’s crafted in the past, such as his 2023 Brit Award statue, the sculpture depicts a hunched-over man with a mischievous grin. Slawn described the piece in a post, stating,
"You guys inspired me to make a sculpture in my image, this is the Ugly Bastard, say hello."
Now, this vision has come to fruition with the release of the official project.
The "Ugly Bastard" sculpture is cast in resin and stands at 24cm x 18cm x 18cm. Its iridescent midnight blue colour takes inspiration from the Magic Eight Ball Fortune Teller, adding a mystical and striking element to the piece. Captured in Slawn’s studio, the official imagery showcases the sculpture on an exclusively designed Slawn car, adorned with his signature caricature-style graffiti.
Slawn’s latest work exemplifies his unique ability to blend humour, self-reflection, and artistic flair. His provocative style continues to captivate audiences, making "Ugly Bastard" a must-see piece in the contemporary art scene. Check out Slawn’s innovative and bold creation above.
