Dancehall heavyweight Shenseea is using a tried and tested formula, linking up with fellow Jamaican and producer Di Genius once again.
Shenseea, full name Chinsea Linda Lee, burst onto the scene with no inhibitions using her songs and platform to promote female empowerment in the Reggae industry, most notably with her 2018 smash hit ‘Shenyeng Anthem’.
Lee begins the record with some competitive pop vocals and some very fitting sirens,“Gimme some room to breathe, I just need some space from you-ou-ou”. It’s only after Di Genius drops his self-titled producer tag the song flips to a polished dancehall number.
‘Puni Police’ sees the singer freeing herself from an overly obsessive relationship and calling out her man while doing so. Once again, she’s not letting no man hold her down.
It’s dancehall through and through with this single and lyrics like “If him guh cut yuh key, put a tracker pan yuh vechs”, combined with the music video where her male counterpart noops through her bag and phone, this musician did the right thing escaping.
This isn’t the first time these two Jamaican supremes have created a hit together as exactly one year ago, the pair worked with Masicka to present 2024’s ‘Hit & Run’, which follows a similar pop-dancehall crossover.
Much like her 2024 drop ‘Dating Szn’, which samples TLC’s ‘No Scrubs’, Shenseea isn’t afraid of playing the relationship field. The 2024 release featured lines like “Mi a date two people at the same time” and 2025’s ‘Puni Police’ brings “You can't stop me from cheat if mi waan cheat”, she knows her own mind.
