LONDON-BASED ARTIST SHARIFA BREAKS BOUNDARIES WITH GENRE-BENDING SINGLE 'SOMEONE'

Updated: Feb 27

After spending a lot of 2023 evolving and developing his sound, London-based artist and producer Sharifa pushes boundaries with his knock-out new single “SOMEONE”.

Delving into the emotional state of being lost whilst yearning for acceptance, the genre-bending single focuses on the pain caused by relationships that turn out to be built on lies. Giving a nod to a diverse range of genres including punk and hyperpop, Sharifa attempts to provide an honest look at loneliness and he succeeds.

Sharifa grew up in a small town in the East Midlands before making the move to London when he was 17. Today (at 19), he embodies a sound representing his maturity, creating a name for himself in the music world. Even gaining admiration from BBC Radio London and Clash Magazine, the young teen is driven by a desire to create a safe space for expression, devoting much of his time to community involvement. Sharifa explains about his latest release;

“Loneliness and feeling lost has been a huge thing for me, my whole life. I've always felt like I have to do everything on my own and it's quite scary. The track also touches on the idea of self-discovery and growth as I come to realize that fitting myself into societal expectations or someone else's idea might not lead to genuine happiness or fulfilment.”

Recently, playing KOKO for his first sold-out showcase performance, his live shows have become known for their welcoming atmosphere that feels strangely familiar. As he touches the hearts and souls of listeners, his sound bears a cathartic escape and seeks genuine connection in a world that often feels fragmented.
