Ghanaian singer Mellissa returns with vibrant new single, ‘Happy’, ahead of her debut project due later this year.
‘Happy’ is a celebration of life's joys and colourful moments. Continuing to create a pace-setting fusion of genres, 'Happy' is led by Mellissa's hypnotic vocals as she pens a love letter across an instrumental from acclaimed producer E-Whizz. The catchiness of the hook, combined with Mellissa’s smooth vocal tone gives the track huge listenability. This has been heavy in our rotation at Oculate.
Mellissa recently visited Lagos to put finishing touches on her upcoming EP, having spent a significant period in London, immersing herself in the UK scene. From childhood, Mellissa experienced a variety of music influences. Underground gems such as Ghana’s Ofori Amponsah and KK Fosu, combined with Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys. This rich musical upbringing could explain the genre-moulding quality exhibited in Mellissa’s music today.
With several festival performances on the way, and her recent singles being championed by the likes of BBC Radio 1, Colors, Wonderland and Clash, the future's looking bright for Mellissa.
