Lizmnk Returns with Glorious Double Single, 'Sun Is My Lover/Mirage'

It's been two years since Newham-born musician Lizmnk released her debut EP, 'Message from above'. In those two years, she's released a live version of her debut, commanded stages at Tate Modern, Camden Koko, and BBC Introducing, all while continuing to produce and write songs in the meantime.

Now, as we head into the autumn days with less sunlight and more fog, she’s dropped two new tracks, ‘Sun Is My Lover/Mirage’. Both tracks are tightly arranged with strong vocal performances throughout. They balance each other nicely as well, with a yin-yang-like essence to the production on each song.

‘Sun Is My Lover’ opens with brooding guitar work backed by airy vocals, unfolding into layers of atmospheric depth. This is Lizmnk’s love letter to the sun: "Bathe me in your  near rays, let them light my darkest days”. The vocals on this track are particularly serene. She cascades over these guitar flourishes and stacked harmonies so effortlessly, with the second half of 'Sun Is My Lover' really highlighting the range of her voice. The level of cinematic flair on show is high.

On the latter track, ‘Mirage’, we get a more otherworldly feeling, complete with jittery drum work and harmonic acoustics. Lizmnk's vocals on this one are a perfect mixture of her sultry delivery with some of her signature spoken word lines. The gentle piano melody that follows the track through to the end adds a nice touch of delicateness to the overall  sound. Near the final minute, the drums pick up pace as trumpets kick in, for a dramatic closing to a fantastic single.

With only a few releases out currently, this is one artist to keep an eye out for, with the talent and the production chops to back it up. The journey is still very young for Lizmnk, but it's also looking extremely bright.

Lizmnk is playing The Old Queens Head on October 2nd for the single launch party. Tickets available here.
