After returning a few months ago with her dance floor heater, ‘Bossin’’, Zimbabwean-born, UK-raised and Australian-based artist KYE returns with her latest release, ‘Clique’.
Driven by her honeyed vocals and body-moving rhythms, ‘Clique’ arrives as a love letter to KYE’s nearest and dearest. Continuing to channel girl boss energy with every lyric, ‘Clique’ showcases KYE embodying an effortless confidence and star quality, proving she is well on her way to destined pop stardom. KYE on the single:
“‘Clique’ is an ode to the crew that makes you your best self. The friends that ride or die for you. I wrote this for my best friends who are all the main character. This one is for the groggy mornings and the foggy nights before; the friends you make at the party and forget the next day.”
‘Clique’ follows on from the 2022 single, ‘Bossin’’ in August, which garnered national acclaim from the likes of BBC Radio 1, The Line of Best Fit, PAPER Magazine, NME, 10 Magazine, Kiss FM, triple j and more. In celebration of this new chapter, KYE headlined packed-out shows across Australia, supported by an all-female line-up of the country's most exciting DJ talent. Most recently, KYE fulfilled a dream and supported her childhood heroes, the iconic TLC at their one-off headline show in Melbourne. Bringing fun, freedom and community to the forefront, this new era pulls influence and inspiration from R&B and soul genres with a proud pop flavour, striking the perfect balance between youthful spirit and the mature confidence of a seasoned professional.
In 2021, KYE released her debut EP, Good Company, which saw her collaborate with Sampa The Great, Touch Sensitive, 18YOMAN and Jerome Farah. A sonically cohesive body of work, the EP weaves together honeyed melodies with shining rhythmic deliveries, championing KYE’s undeniable songwriting and vocal talents and garnering nationwide acclaim from the likes of The Guardian, Rolling Stone, Fashion Journal, NME and more.
Since then she has embarked on a number of tour support slots, joining both Genesis Owusu and Sampa The Great across their national show dates, as well as her own headline tour. A deeply respected artist across the Australian musical community, KYE has also toured the nation with some of the country’s most beloved acts, including Sampa The Great, Ruel, Meg Mac, Genesis Owusu and Billy Davis.
Keeping joy and freedom at the forefront throughout 2022, ‘Clique’ arrives today as another teaser of what’s to come in KYE’s new era.
