Joy Crookes and Ravyn Lenae team up on ‘Feet Don’t Fail Me Now (Part 2)’, giving the 2021 track a fresh chapter as it surges again.
Joy Crookes and Ravyn Lenae make an immediately convincing pairing on ‘Feet Don’t Fail Me Now (Part 2)’, giving one of Crookes’ biggest songs a new chapter five years after it first landed on Skin.
The original has already been doing plenty of work on its own. ‘Feet Don’t Fail Me Now’ has recently climbed back to around one million daily streams and passed 315 million in total, with its FIFA 22 history still keeping the song tied closely to football culture. Rather than simply letting the track enjoy another run, Crookes has brought Lenae into the moment.
It makes sense almost instantly. Crookes’ vocal range has always been one of her strongest tools, and this is the kind of song that shows exactly why. Lenae doesn’t arrive to pull the track in the opposite direction; her voice sits naturally alongside Crookes’, with the two working together rather than fighting for space. Put simply, they fit like cookies and milk — different enough to bring something new, but naturally meant to sit together.
The collaboration also lands at a strong point for Lenae. Her third album Blue Island arrived in August, following the huge crossover success of ‘Love Me Not’, which reached No.5 on the Billboard Hot 100. That gives Part 2 the feel of two artists meeting at the right moment rather than a feature added for the sake of it.
Crookes has previously explained that the original song came from the perspective of someone staying complicit because speaking out felt risky. As she puts it, “Open up a dialogue, speak out, make mistakes - that’s okay and that’s how progress happens.” That idea still gives the track its backbone, even as Part 2 opens it up to a new voice.
Crookes’ second album Juniper arrived in 2025, followed by a Glastonbury Other Stage appearance and another packed run of shows and festival dates. Crookes didn’t need to reinvent one of her biggest songs for it to connect again. Adding Lenae instead feels much simpler: two voices that make immediate sense together, meeting on a track that already had plenty of life left in it.
