Downtown Kayoto, the Zimbabwe-born, Hull-based artist hailed as one of the North of England's most exciting emerging talents, is back with his latest single, 'Coastlines'.
DK

'Coastlines' is the official third single from Downtown Kayoto's latest project as he continues to cement his reputation as a beacon of creative innovation. The track captures a narrative of nostalgia and early personal experiences, with smooth-cut, poignant lyricism over a choppy production, 'Coastlines' blends effective percussive elements with smooth guitar riffs, co-produced by DK himself alongside Dan Briskin and Frankie Scoca. Touching on a past relationship, DK encourages his listeners to express their feelings and emotions openly. Speaking about the new single, DK says;

"Ironically, 'Coastlines' is a witty song. It’s about a time my ex and I literally lived on different coastlines. It talks about the distance of that relationship and how I truly felt. It’s continuing the thread of confident vulnerability — finding ways of saying the things that you feel, no matter how awkward it may sound."

'Coastlines' is just one of the eight meticulously crafted tracks on DK's forthcoming EP, 'Thinking With My Ears'. Set to showcase DK's evolution as an artist, featuring a range of sounds from the R&B-infused beats of 'Came Thru' to the melodic notes of 'Coastlines', and the standout track 'My Best.' Set to release on July 18th, DK will perform a headline show in London on the release day, with support from Omar+ and Nosa.

Downtown Kayoto is the epitome of a new-generation DIY artist, overseeing every aspect of his work from production to art direction to choreography. As he gears up for the release of 'Thinking With My Ears', DK's multifaceted talent continues to shine.
