Cat Burns Announces Her Intimate New Album 'How to be Human'

Multi-BRIT nominee and 2024 Mercury Prize shortlister Cat Burns is back with her most vulnerable project yet. A year after the success of her top-ten debut early twenties, the singer-songwriter has announced her next body of work, 'How to be Human', landing on Friday 31st October.

Spanning 16 tracks, the album explores the tangled mix of grief, love, and self-discovery. Recent singles “All This Love” and sapphic anthem “GIRLS!” have already set the tone, but the full record promises an even deeper dive into her inner world. Written entirely by Cat, the songs carry her signature honesty, woven with affirmations, personal reflections, and even voice notes, making it her most direct and personal storytelling yet.

The visual concept for the album was directed by Cat herself, with photographer Sebastian Xavier capturing artwork that mirrors its raw intimacy. Speaking about the record, Cat explains:

“How to be human is about the last year of my life. I experienced the death of a loved one and my first relationship heartbreak at the same time and genuinely had no idea how I would get through the situation. Making this album was my introspective and neurodivergent way of navigating heartbreak and the loss of my Grandad who I was extremely close to – it’s my comfort album. While making it I realised how many people it could help. I hope it provides them some comfort too and shows how you can pick yourself back up.”

Alongside the album, Cat has also announced a seven-date UK headline tour this November, giving fans the first chance to experience How to be Human live, alongside her established favourites. Before that, she’ll be appearing at All Points East this Saturday (23rd August), joining a stacked all-female lineup with Raye, JADE, and Tyla.

With How to be Human, Cat Burns looks set to deliver her most resonant, relatable, and heartfelt project to date.
