The UK’s drum and bass scene welcomes a powerful new anthem as Brodie and Skepsis join forces for their latest release, "Double Vision,” offering a compelling blend of Brodie's soulful, raw vocals and Skepsis' expert production, which features a nostalgic M1 rave organ sound reminiscent of classic '90s house music.
Hot on the heels of her debut solo release "Rig Fairy," "Double Vision," showcases her evolving sound and fearless storytelling. Skepsis, a veteran of the UK bass scene who burst onto the scene in 2015, complements Brodie’s intense energy with a beat that expertly balances modern production with a throwback vibe.
Exploring the themes of excess and chaos, inspired by a tumultuous period in Brodie's life when she was left to her own devices in her mother's house at just 17, the track's lyrics paint a vivid picture of a time when "strangers in her kitchen" became a daily occurrence, a reflection of the endless parties and the resulting cycle of chaos. Brodie explains,
"Double Vision is definitely a very personal one for me lyrically. I wrote this tune about the time in my life where my mum had moved to Scotland and left me in her house for about six months by myself... and as a 17-year-old you can probably imagine the chaos every day. It was an endless cycle. I do not recommend hosting the 'party house' as this was the most chaotic time of my life, but at least it gave me the inspiration to write a tune about it now."
For Skepsis, "Double Vision" is one of his favourite records to date.
"The moment I heard Brodie’s vocal over the beat, I couldn’t get it out of my head. I feel it’s a good continuation of my recent sound, and hope you enjoy listening as much as we did making it," he said.
The track was first teased during Skepsis’ debut performance at Drumsheds, where it quickly became a hot topic within the drum and bass community. With Brodie's deep connection to the genre, having been "born in the rave" and immersed in the culture from a young age, "Double Vision" is a testament to her authenticity and dedication to the scene.
