Gritty British gangster drama "Top Boy" is returning to screens with its fifth and final season, set to be released on Netflix in September 2023.
The show will see the return of Ashley Walters as Dushane, alongside new characters played by Barry Keoghan and Brian Gleeson. Regular cast members Kane Robinson, Simbi Ajikawo, Jasmine Jobson, Saffron Hocking, and Araloyin Oshunremi will also be back for the final instalment.
Originally airing on Channel 4 in 2011, the show was cancelled after its second season but was brought back to life when Canadian rapper Drake discovered it on Netflix and petitioned for its return. Netflix became the new home of the series, with its first season airing in 2019, followed by a second season in 2022.
The final season will consist of six episodes, with the first four directed by Myriam Raja, who was previously part of the Top Boy season one mentee programme. The show's lead actors and executive producers, Walters and Robinson, have said that season three will be the show's finale, allowing the story to come full circle and end the journey the right way.
A trailer for the final season has been released, featuring the main stars discussing how they've survived and the importance of being a "monster" rather than "food" in their environment.
For those who have followed the series from the beginning, the final season is sure to be a must-watch event.
